About the Photographs
  • Mr. Roeder was a driver in World War Two, assigned from St. Louis, Missouri to ME1. All images are part of his collection.
  • All pictures and material on this site are protected by copyright (2007 by the Roeder Archives); but may be used in historical publications without fee so long as reference is made to “Permission, Roeder Archives.”
  • Roeder is pronounced Raider.
  • As best possible, photos are dated.  Some pictures had no dates written on them; but the dates were discovered by looking at the daily diary of Arthur Faulstich, a fellow driver and friend from St. Louis.
  • A few pictures are of ships important to the AFS experience.  These came from archives and are so noted.
  • Pictures taken by Arthur Faulstich are noted.  Unless otherwise noted, all other pictures were taken by Larry Winter Roeder.   Pictures of artifacts were taken by Larry Winter Roeder, Jr.

Saw “Bombay Clipper” at the movies onboard ship.

Note:  This is a fascinating entry in the diary of Arthur Faulstich since the film wasn’t released until mid January, 1942 in the United States.

Was their pre-release version different than the official release version – and when was it loaded on the ship?
