Roeder History

See pictures at the US Embassy during Suez war and after. 1956-57

Pictures below are from the evacuation itself, a beginning of a study.

We were evacuated first on the USS Chilton.

We were told during evacuation that US Navy aimed guns at Israelis who were shelling Egyptians, indicating we would fire on them if our ships were hit.

This picture is from the official annual book of our evacuation ship, showing my mother and a Greek friend.  My back is to the camera.  My mother noted on it the strafing of our bus in Alexandria by Israel

Kay Malcow in a landing craft, which is how we moved from the port to the ships.

My mother and I arrive on board.  In background is one of the landing craft that took us to the ship.  On the right are Egyptian sailers.

This picture is from annual boat of our evacuation ship, USS Chilton.  We were very close to anti aircraft batteries going off on the invasion planes. A little hard to see everything in pic, so I plan to go to naval archives for a better shot.
